Watercolour Washes That Glow

Why cotton paper changes everything, plus the three-wash method for luminous skies.

Paper is ninety percent of watercolour. Cold-press 300gsm cotton takes lifting, scrubbing, and glazing without pilling — student paper simply cannot. Stretch it, tape it, and let it dry bone-flat between washes.

Charge wet-into-wet for skies, glaze dry for shadows, and leave your whites as bare paper. Three washes beat ten fiddly ones, every time.
