Oil Painting Without the Fumes
Daniel Osei · July 2, 2026

Fat over lean, fume-free cleanup, and why slow-drying colour is worth the wait.
Oils get their bad reputation from solvents, not from paint. Modern water-mixable oils and a simple walnut-oil cleanup routine keep your studio fume-free and your brushes soft for years.
Fat over lean is the only rule that matters: each new layer carries a touch more oil than the last, so nothing cracks as it cures. Varnish after six months and the colour will glow for a century.
